Review #18 - @riseandgrindespressobar

There are few greater pleasures than a tasty brew on a bright and chilly morning. In the wake of the federal election (and a few too many election sausages and alcoholic refreshments), the blokes were in dire need of such a simple comfort. Today we hit up ‘Rise and Grind’ in Scarborough to see what all the recommendation fuss was about.

Vibes 🍃- The vibes are immaculate down just off Scarborough beach road in Doubleview: Rise&Grind makes great use of space and décor with a very trendy front of house and chic colouring made for a very welcoming space. We were lucky enough to enjoy the likes of a vibrant ‘coffee garden’ out back which is certainly a first for the blokes so big ticks all round. Awesome to see them offering Nitro brew as well which is a niche and unique option that we wish we saw more often.

Taste 👅- Rise&Grind run a blend from our well-known friends ‘Pound Coffee Roastery’ in O’Connor. Very strong tones of black cherry and cocoa, meddled with a splash of dried fig. It was well extracted, and the beans were of a strong age. Certainly, a blend that is a Perth people pleaser but certainly doesn’t blow your socks off with anything too bold or creative. Would’ve been optimum in a 6oz but more about that later…

Temperature 🌡 – Could’ve been a tad toastier but not complaining

Glass Size 📏 – For the first time on our journey we were greeted with 4oz glasses. Not quite the echelon of a 6oz but we would be keen to see Rise&Grind make the change... definitely not as bad as the infamous 8oz so a win nontheless

Froth 🥛 – Well textured froth however was on the excessive side.

General Appearance/Consistency 🤩 - Can’t go wrong with sweet and simple hearts on a long Mac. Froth varied between the brews, but I guess u can’t win them all.

Rise and Grind is a very cool little spot. It merges an eclectic coffee bar (the cold ‘nitro’ brew is insanely good; albeit not a long mac) with a friendly and local vibe. The blokes loved how they do their own thing whilst pumping out yummy brews and some very good-looking food.

77.0/100 on the Brew ‘o’ Meter 🤖🤝
